Glimpse of our wide variety of careers on National Future Day

November 12, 2023

Children in the 5th to 7th grades experienced an unusual Thursday on 9 November: Instead of studying in the classroom, they got a glimpse of working life on National Future Day. Fifteen children were invited by the Andermatt Swiss Alps Group and Andermatt-Sedrun Sport AG for a visit to learn about various jobs. A day full of new impressions!

The day started for the children in one of two ways: some of them looked over the shoulder of their guides, while others attended an IT workshop. After welcoming remarks, the task was announced: They were asked to programme a game together. The task was accomplished brilliantly, and after a short break, they were given a glimpse of hotel operations. During the tour of The Chedi Andermatt, they learned about the various jobs, including those where people work behind the scenes. With all of the many new impressions, the children worked up an appetite, just in time for a plate of pasta at Restaurant Biselli.

Career aspirations for the future

After lunch, Raphael Krucker met up with the children for a chat. Raphael stressed that the children should do something that brings them joy. Some of them already know exactly what their dream job is: from hotel manager or gondola mechatronics technician to designer or captain of a ship on the high seas, the choices were wide-ranging.

In the thick of preparations on the mountain

Another highlight followed in the afternoon. The children got an exclusive look at how the mountain was being readied for the upcoming season. On Gurschen, the learned about the tasks that are handled by the ski patrol. Next, they found out more about snow production, and then, after a brief trip with the chairlift, they got a peek at life inside the cableways.

A successful day was drawing to a close. After a short final quiz, the children headed home tired, but with many impressions and ideas.
