Mobility project for the sports bus launched - Andermatt introduces e-bus fleet first

December 17, 2023

With the "Digitalisation and electrification of the Andermatt sports bus" project, the Andermatt-Hospental bus commission aims to further develop the service in a sustainable and customer-friendly way. The first measures will be implemented this winter. From this winter, an e-bus fleet will be operating in Andermatt for the first time. The timetable has been optimised and the routes adapted to today's needs.

The Andermatt sports bus is an important part of the winter experience. During the winter season, it transports guests free of charge to the cross-country ski trail entrances and valley stations of the mountain railways and to the various neighbourhoods. From this winter, only two of the three lines will run through the village to reduce traffic. Instead, one line will run directly from Andermatt Reuss via the bypass road to the Gemsstock valley station. Here is the current timetable and further information .

Digitalisation and electrification by 2025

In order to meet the increased demands on the infrastructure in Andermatt, the Andermatt-Hospental bus commission has launched the "Digitalisation and electrification of the Andermatt sports bus" project. The bus commission consists of representatives from Andermatt-Urserntal Tourismus, the municipalities of Andermatt, Hospental and Realp, Andermatt Swiss Alps AG and Andermatt-Sedrun Sport AG. The project is managed by the Alpine Mobility association , which is committed to promoting sustainable mobility in the Gotthard region. The project is financed by Andermatt-Sedrun Sport AG, the canton of Uri, Urner Kantonalbank, Andermatt-Urserntal GmbH, Andermatt Swiss Alps and the municipality of Andermatt. The aim is to promote sustainable mobility and improve customer service through real-time information. The project is scheduled for completion in summer 2025.

In the field of electrification, an e-bus fleet is being tested this winter. Three vehicles are in use. This will determine the extent to which they can be used in a winter sports resort and the challenges involved.

The digitalisation goals relate to real-time information for passengers. The sports bus is to be integrated into the SBB app. In addition, digital bus stop boards are to be installed at three to four locations to provide passengers with real-time information. A web app is also planned to inform passengers about the route selection, timetables and current location. The measures are expected to be implemented in the 2024/25 winter season.
