We’re delighted to share the news that the Andermatt Concert Hall has been selected by the jury of the Architizer competition as the winner of the 2022 Cultural Halls/Theaters category. The Architizer A+Awards is the largest awards program focused on promoting and judging the best architecture of the year in a variety of categories.

The Andermatt Concert Hall was designed by Studio Seilern Architects under the direction of Christina Seilern, who was recently named Architect of the Year at the Female Frontier Awards by World Architecture News. Built against an impressive panorama, the 650-seat hall offers an intimate atmosphere and features an exceptionally flexible stage with space for a 75-piece orchestra. London-based Studio Seilern Architects also created the building for the two gourmet restaurants on Andermatt's local mountain, Gütsch.

Since its grand opening in 2019, the Andermatt Concert Hall has been the home of many emotional moments. It is the first large concert hall designed specifically for a year-round destination in the mountains. Not only does it impress with its architecture, but also with its outstanding acoustic, which Lena-Lisa Wüstendorfer and the Swiss Orchestra have used to take guests on a musical journey since they have become the residing orchestra in 2022.

One of the strongest qualities of this state-of-the-art auditorium, is its never-ending versatility. The Andermatt Concert Hall can be used for a variety of purposes and offers the flexibility to accommodate different seating or event plans - from an orchestral performance to a rock concert or convention. The flexibility and ease of switching between layouts is based on a retractable system that allows up to nine rows of steps to disappear under the main balcony. Last year it even became the home of the “Moving Forward” hybrid convention with a 360° audience, which was also broadcasted live online.

Even though it is competing with stunning landscapes all around and a multitude of activities, the Concert Hall will continue being one of the main attractions in Andermatt in the coming months. With monthly classical music concerts organised by Andermatt Music, Comedy nights and even a rock music festival, it will continue being a place where stories are made, and emotions are felt.
