From Beijing straight to Andermatt: Aline Danioth gets her own racing piste on Gütsch

The SkiArena Andermatt-Sedrun now has an added attraction: Since early January, Andermatt native Aline Danioth has had her own racing piste with an automatic timing system. On Aline Run on Gütsch, recreational skiers can also see how they stack up against Danioth’s times.

More than two years ago, Andermatt native Aline Danioth tore her cruciate ligament for the fourth time. However, quitting was never an option for her. Without hesitation, she decided to battle her way back to rejoin the world’s elite racers. The tireless effort by the now 23-year-old paid off with her selection for the Olympic Winter Games in Beijing. A sponsor of Danioth, the SkiArena Andermatt-Sedrun has now set aside a racing piste just for her below Gütsch.

Official opening ceremony of Aline Run

Saturday marked the official opening of the Aline Run and featured the attendance of two athletes from this year’s Olympics – Aline Danioth and Obwalden native Carlos Mäder, who competed for Ghana in Beijing. Mäder is also supported by the SkiArena Andermatt-Sedrun and trained on Gemsstock in advance of the Winter Games.

Aline Run, which is equipped with a fully automated timing system, can be used every day at no charge by winter guests, young and old alike. The slalom gates on Aline Run are maintained by the Swiss Snowsports School Andermatt. Starting now, all skiers have the opportunity to try and match Danioth's times. The SkiArena Andermatt-Sedrun is also proud of its continuing support for Danioth on her path to returning to the World Cup elite.
